Initially only Dredge are shown as becoming warped, but it is later revealed that all races can be twisted into them. Though first encountered in the second part of The Banner Saga, the Warped do not appear en masse until the third game. Warped refers to the twisted beings corrupted by the Darkness.

By doing this, I was able to carry over 580+ renown and make TBS2 a cake walk for the most part."The darkness doesn't kill, it warps. Do not buy supplies and do not worry about your morale or people starving. Only rank your characters up to Rank 2 then focus on getting everyone's kill counts from 25 to 30 to prepare them for Rank 10 in TBS2. During this playthrough, pick a few specific characters to focus on (I went with Mogr, Gunnulf, Iver, Egil, Rook, Alette, Oddleif and Truggvi).
For importing a save you also get the level 6 item, Tome of X, as soon as you start the game. When you do, pick up every item you can, fight every battle including the extra fights in wars, and stock up on renown. Because of all this, it is highly recommended to go through The Banner Saga one last time on Easy. When you do this, it carries over all decisions (who died both through the story and at the end of the game) as well as your supplies, items and renown. If you have played The Banner Saga 1, then you will be given the opportunity to import your save.
